Research and development of new treatments: Dr. DeMio and his staff are proud to have been the largest center for research of multiple enzyme preparations for Kirkman’s latest products. This particularly helps to address starches and sugars and assists our families with dietary and digestive needs. We have also developed multiple mineral products with Kirkman’s for ease of administration, taste, and optimal repletion of minerals during chelation and for patients with nutritional deficiencies.

Early detection and prevention of Autism Spectrum Disorders and vaccination issues: As the parent of a child with autism, Dr. DeMio joins all of us with the desire to reduce the risk of having another child sustaining an autism spectrum or developmental disorder. Therefore he and his staff at Whole Health and Wellness have ongoing research to develop ways to identify children at risk. These include identifying at-risk children before symptoms develop, along with helping families prepare for the next pregnancy, along with performing vaccine risk assessments. Dr. DeMio also writes vaccine exemption s and educates ou about your parental vaccination rights. As a parent and practitioner, Dr. DeMio knows that we ourselves must take the steering wheel and spearhead these issues, because these services have not been offered by conventional medical and governmental systems.

Surgery and dental care: Dr. DeMio has special treatment protocols for children and family members who will be getting dental procedures, such as the removal of mercury fillings and other metals, as well as all aspects of dental care. Special supplements and specific precautions are used to help reduce the chance of further toxic exposures. Many of our children have “comorbid” illness which means they have more than one disorder in addition to their autism spectrum problem. It is not uncommon for such children to need surgery or anesthesia for these illnesses. Dr. DeMio is very experienced with helping you prepare your child for surgery, anesthesia, or other similar procedures, especially with regard to the proper use of the least toxic opioids, and the safest anesthesia. He has also been innovative in developing specialized wound care that avoids the use of heavy metals. As shocking as it sounds, heavy metals of many types including mercury, aluminum and silver continue to be recommended and frequently used in toxic amounts for postoperative wound care. Cutting edge treatment of immunologic problems: The autism spectrum with its biological basis includes immune abnormalities. Dr. DeMio believes that we must address the immune system in every child so that this major piece of the biological aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorders can be treated. For children who have frequent infections (ears, respiratory, urinary, others) Dr. DeMio has developed natural treatments that stimulate the immune system and limit the need for antibiotics or other toxic treatments. This bridges a huge number of our children with seasonal worsening of their autism which has to do with allergy, autoimmune problems, and infections. Certain infections such as strep can lead to PANDAS, tics, asthma, and other immune/autoimmune problems. Dr. DeMio uses IV immunoglobulin, as well as other treatments for these problems when appropriate for your child or loved one.

Emergencies and other problems: As a parent, Dr. DeMio knows that autism doesn’t stop at 5:00pm on weekdays. Established patients of our practice can contact the doctor for issues that can not wait until regular business hours. The Shadow Syndromes: “The diagnosis doesn’t fit but …” Many of our children have “autistic features”, or bits and pieces of autism, but no practitioner is willing to diagnosis them with a full blown autism spectrum disorder. These persons do respond to the treatment Dr. DeMio does using DAN! techniques and other approaches described throughout our website. A partial list includes: infantile autistic bipolar disorder, Zapella Purine autism, ASD/steatorrhea syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, aprixia, dyspraxia, developmental delay, speech delay, and many others. Compounding Pharmacy: During treatment with Dr. DeMio, your child will need to have a compounding pharmacist. We work closely with the Lee Silsby Pharmacy in Ohio which also deals with patients locally and internationally. They are very innovative with topical, injectable, and other compounded prescriptions that they fill for Dr. DeMio’s patients and we work closely with them to customize those orders to meet your child or loved one’s needs. Other special pharmacists are available for special orders in addition to the above, and we also work closely with them. With many pharmacies available we can work with these highly skilled specialists from across the country to be sure that your child gets their treatment maximized.
